End of semester 1 and i feel like its just flown by. Looking back through the whole of laptop musician, it contained frustration, confusion then happiness and joy, at finally gripping Super Collider and ixi. I have learned things i thought would take me a lot more longer to learn in the space of 12 weeks, I will never forget that nerve wrecking feeling, when i was first introduced to super collider, i felt very weary and really unsure i would learn just one line of code in 12 weeks, it was a scary thing to approach. I know however am very surprised to notice that i can write codes and achieve some basic pieces within super collider and more, i have learned the use of scales and harmony, rhythm and waves and formats within super collider and can feel comfortable within startin a projects with super collider, i never thought i would get to the stage i am at in 12 weeks, but it goes to show with some listening and pratical use, you can achieve your goals, and that i have and i think it shines slighlty in my musical assemble for piano piece. I am going to look further within super collider within the holidays, and work towards some goals to achieve so that semester 2 start, i can feel comfortable within super collider, and create some good pieces via the use of super coliider.
I fel the use of group work and ixi quarks, helped me gain a deeper understanding of structure within music, expectation and time. And when all is applied just right, you can make some magnificent pieces of music, it also helped me have a apprecation on spacious music.
Overall a scary start but a good end, feeling postive about semester 2, and ready to get further into progamming of music.
Now are piece is finished, and is recorded, we used the lesson to play our piece through some high quality speakers, we also had the chance to use with spacious listening, i felt that this had an amazing impact on our piece and everyone else’s piece. It really brings the piece to life, and it has a great feel, with certain sounds swishing round the room, and sounds staying placed in one corner, it really affects the music in a great way, and as i sat down with the lights off and my eyes closed, just listening i found myself mesormized by the pieces and it really shone through. Learning about spacious listening with Paul Rhys helped within this task, and also to pratically use spacious listening in our piece, helped me understand it a lot more better, something i would like to work on in further projects.
i found listening to all the class group work, and gainin feedback, was a great way to help for improvement, and listening to various other pieces i found myself drawn a lot more deeper into them, as you now relize the effort gone into them. I think the feedback really helped our piece improve, and to have the class feedback on the piece showed what people are looking for their listening of a sone, and expectation.
Overall the class group work was very promising and good, I think we have all learned within the group and can safely say we have some away with something, looking forward to working further in groups, as two heads are better than one.
I found the use of reaching the same pitch that the teacher had played, quite difficult, and it also showed what i was slightly lacking and its something i need to work on, a bit more. so this esson proved to me that i should go and work on my pitch hearing skills, i found i was never that far off, but i was never on the dot. and it is a skill that i would like to have, so my time should be spent wisely and train my ear’s. i also found it useful to have learned pitch hearing in our piece as we can all create pitches that maybe harmonize one another. and as a group this is something we will look to devolop further.
We have now succesfully come up with a structure for the piece and also played with various other instruments to help gain the best potential for the song an have feel we have came up with a good harmony of instruments and sounds. our piece is a process piece that starts with the lead grain box, then we play with expectation and work our piece up to an eruption feeling, by adding sounds and instruments one by one, till you reach the peak, then it fades back out to the chimes of the sound drop. i feel i am getting a deeper understanding on ixi quarks, i can indentify its use, and properties and how it can be used in certain musical pieces.
In this week, i am going to look through Super Collider and ixi quarks, and create some pieces and try hard to develop some pieces with the knowledge i have gained, and i am going to look for new knowledge and do some research, i found their is various other progam out their, for example bbcut which cut samples of drums and creates some really cool sounds.
We now have been selected into groups with each other and are working very well, i feel. we have ixi quarks which is a progam i have never heard off, and find it has great benefits to create some great pieces, and i am looking forward to gettin used to it, and working it in with some pieces. i feel the group work is important to get a deeper understanding on structure of music and the element of working together. we have all decided our instrument, mine is the quanoon, and we have all come up with a basic structure and feel for the whole song, we have had some trial tests with it, and find its very enchanting and defiantly a process piece, some more work to be done but a very good start.
I am strarting to put all my learning into use and create my first Super Collider compistion. this seems to be taking awhile to get into the swing of things. I feel i will get a start on the piece and work through it for awhile, and check on it and update it, as i want it to contain all that it needs. So far my piece is including a mixolydian, phrygian and locrain scales, and is designed for a piano, the piece will combine the scales, and interact with them, in harmony to achieve it’s best potetial i am planning to hopefully, add some more instruments to help the piece shine.
The use of learning Rhythms, can help me tremendously, as i can now vary my pieces in pattern and style. using the methods learned, i find it good to play with rhythmetic patterns, and work them into my pieces, as it plays with expectation. i personally have discorved that although Super Collider i hard to get grip of, and the use of scales, rhythms and various methods, to create music, can be hard to achieve, but with some patience and some hard thinking, you find that all the knowledge and hard work pay off, and it shows in the pieces you create, so im eager to get stuck in more and learn some more methods, in the mean time, i am planning to work through some methods to gain some more knowledge and to make sure i remember it.
finding Super Collider a little easy to use, and feel the use of music theory really shows off when making music through Super Colider,i find that the interaction between scale variation, really smooth with super collider, and sure saves time. I think i will keep making tracks with some scales, and really work hard to make some nice peices with my knowledge.
